HOME | CULTURE AND ACADEMY | NOBEL LAUREATE RITA LEVI-MONTALCINI
An exceptional “finissage” of the Collegio Nuovo academic year 2008-2009, on September 29th: a memorable event thanks to the visit of Medicine Nobel Laureate Rita Levi-Montalcini, “nuovina” (Collegio Nuovo student) for an evening (and a night!).
«I wish all the best to these young students of this wonderful college.»
Is what she wrote in the golden book where all the College’s keynote guests leave their records.
There is a prior event, however: Alumna Natalia Lugli, newly graduated in Biology, to celebrate the 100 birthday of this world renowned scientist, decided to donate to her Collegio a very special rose garden: 100 flowers of the “Rita Levi Montalcini” quality, planted in a ground area shaped in a form which reminds the one of the NGF (nerve growth factor). The discovery of NGF, made by Levi-Montalcini, led her to this important recognition awarded by the Swedish Academy. Natalia Lugli had no doubt in her decision to create this garden in her Collegio: «to remember and to think to the future in a place where culture is “cultivated”, where minds and hearts are cared for and fostered».
Since then, every year one of the free places assigned by the College is awarded to a biomedical student and entitled to Rita Levi Montalcini.
