The Collegio Nuovo - Sandra and Enea Mattei Foundation of Pavia and the Monte di Lombardi Foundation @fondazionemontedilombardia are promoting a joint initiative to promote the inclusion and education of deserving second-generation Italian female students or daughters of immigrants residing in Italy. This year, the 2026-27 call for applications to the College offers, for the first time, three free places reserved for successful second-generation Italian female students or daughters of foreign parents residing in our country. The three free places are established thanks to the support of the Monte di Lombardia Foundation, which is committed to promoting youth integration, overcoming social inequalities, and higher education, to ensure a constructive future for talented young people from disadvantaged economic backgrounds and for our country. The scholarship will benefit future graduates in biology, natural sciences, and biotechnology—fields closely related to Annalisa, who was a floriculture researcher at CREA in Sanremo. 🟡🟢 Congratulations to our mathematician Elena Schipor (pictured with Laura Carminati, former Vice President of the Alumnae Association) who won the SAPRAI Award - Study and Assistantship Program for Research in Artificial Intelligence promoted by Alumna Lara Princisvalle together with Eugenio Paglino. "Already at the end of my bachelor's degree, I began to become increasingly passionate about the world of applied mathematics and how it can intertwine with our lives in the most unexpected ways," she says. "The widespread diffusion of tools like Artificial Intelligence, closely linked to my field of study, confirms this. Subsequently, during my master's degree, I received further input in this direction, approaching the field of Operations Research, which I am studying in my master's thesis. For this reason, when I saw the announcement of the conference to be held at the University of Vienna (theme: 'Decision Support for a Sustainable World'), I decided to participate and submit my candidacy for the SAPRAI Award, which promotes training in the AI field. The conference starts next week, and as the start approaches, I am increasingly happier and more grateful to all the people who have supported me, to the point of being at a loss for words. "I was only a few years older than those girls, and the College was lost on the outskirts of the city, with nothing around except the prospect of future university development. The building was there, the first students were there, but the rest was still to be built. We succeeded, all together, year after year, with the essential support of so many people." Thus, in the excellent interview "La Provincia Pavese" dedicated to her today, Maria Assunta Zanetti, director of the Labtalento research center on gifted students (University of Pavia) and member of the Collegio Nuovo's scientific committee, explains. She is responsible for the creation of the soft skills development project implemented at the Nuovo: from time management (and stress management) to acing a job interview, a series of meetings to reflect and test oneself.

“I am deeply grateful to the Alumni Association

"I am deeply grateful to the Collegio Nuovo Alumnae Association for awarding me a scholarship that will allow me to complete a two-month clinical internship in Thailand," says Vittoria Belotti (pictured left), a medical school graduate who won the Internship Grant along with her partner and colleague Elena Rinaldi (center), with whom she will also share the experience. "For me, this project represents much more than a study opportunity. It will be an opportunity to experience a different healthcare system, with pathologies and care needs far removed from those I encounter daily, putting my skills to the test in a new and stimulating context. In recent years, my career has focused primarily on the scientific aspects of medicine and research. This experience will offer me the opportunity to delve into another dimension that I consider essential: the direct relationship with the patient, listening, being present, and caring for the person as a whole. I am also excited to immerse myself in a culture so different from my own, certain that encountering new human and professional perspectives will significantly contribute to my growth as a future doctor." Alumna Grazia Bruttocao is the Rector of Collegio Nuovo as of today, July 1, 2026: she succeeds Paola Bernardi, the only Rector of the Collegio di merito since its establishment, thanks to the entrepreneur Sandra Bruni Mattei, in 1978. "I am very grateful to the Board of Directors of the Sandra and Enea Mattei Foundation for appointing me: it is an honor for me to lead the College I entered as a student and which I have seen grow over the decades, thanks to the Rector Paola Bernardi. The Nuovo is a driving force for social advancement and a place of education and culture established to enhance talent; my focus, from the very beginning, has been precisely on bringing out talented students, encouraging cultural cross-fertilization, and overcoming social and economic differences. With a strong sense of responsibility and belonging to an institution that has educated more than 1000 students, I wish to put my experience at the service of a lively and multicultural community, well integrated in the university context of Pavia, both Italian and international". Heartfelt congratulations to our student Matil

Heartfelt congratulations to our alumna Matilde Del Canto (first year of the Master's Degree in Physical Sciences at the University of Pavia) who has won one of the 25 "More Women in Physics" scholarships offered by the INFN – National Institute for Nuclear Physics. This is an important recognition from one of Italy's most prestigious theoretical and experimental research institutes in the fields of subnuclear, nuclear, and astroparticle physics. It recognizes the achievements of young women, selected from across Italy, working in one of the STEM disciplines, a key area for the New Sciences community. In 2024, the award was won by Alumna Arianna Vercesi. After graduating high school with honors in science, Matilde Del Canto was admitted to Collegio Nuovo in 2022, immediately distinguishing herself for her commitment and resourcefulness. In her first year, she participated as a speaker in the CoNnect initiative, promoted by the students and open to the public, delivering a talk entitled "Science in Cinema and the Space of Science Fiction" (an experience she repeated this year). In her second year of her bachelor's degree, she was selected as a student for the 2024 Gravity-Related Summer School, organized and funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and ELGRA (European Low Gravity Research Association). The College will support her with a scholarship for another project that will take her to Roscoff in 2025 to participate in the PLA@PAR Summer School on Plasma, promoted by the Sorbonne and the University of Pisa. After graduating from the University of Pavia with a thesis entitled "Machine Learning for Boosted Top Tagging in ATLAS" (supervised by Andrea Negri and Sonia Carrà), Del Canto is completing the first year of her master's degree, majoring in Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics, also collaborating part-time at the University as a tutor of Mathematical Analysis and Physics. She also received a grant from the College for participation, with two fellow students, in the Summer Program at Ochanomizu University in Tokyo. "Participating in the AIEOP Days in Rimini, thanks to the valuable contribution of the Collegio Nuovo, represented an extraordinary opportunity for growth and training for me. I chose to participate in this conference because, having focused my final year's thesis work on pediatric oncohematology, hearing the leading experts in the field discuss therapeutic innovations and the most recent research protocols live allowed me to give clinical substance to everything I had previously studied in depth in books and in the department. For me, it was the first time I had attended a national scientific conference, and having had the opportunity to witness the enthusiasm and dedication that characterize research in this field broadened my future study prospects, strengthening my intention to further my specialization in pediatric oncohematology. Having had the opportunity to share this experience with Elena, a new colleague but above all a friend, represented an enormous added value for me and made the conferences, the piadinas, and the aperitifs between speakers truly unforgettable. the other even more special".
