We talked about GA-THERE, a mentorship program recommended to us by Alumna Rachele Catalano, here last year to collect applications in good time. Now, the results: all of the admitted Alumnae were granted access to reserved sections of the website and some learning labs relevant to their project. Rachele, who is also one of the mentors, explains: "The selection of admitted mentees depends on the proposed project, the match with the expertise and figures present on this edition's team, and, above all, the concrete possibility of supporting the candidates in achieving their path and goals." It's half a century old and still captures the loneliness, alienation, and violence of today. Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver," starring a magnificent Robert De Niro, who meticulously crafted the character, and a very young and talented Jodie Foster (with her sister as a stand-in for some scenes). "Never Again Your Own Thing": Based on the book by Fabio Roia and Ilaria Ramoni (Mondadori - Frecce), the Merged Center (Interdepartmental Research Center on Migration and Recognition of Gender Diversity) of the University of Pavia, of which Nuovo is a member, is inaugurating the course "Prevention of Gender-Based Violence. A meeting promoted by our students Elena Rin

A meeting organized by our alumni Elena Rinaldi and Vittoria Belotti and international students Dajana Gega and Julia Seppa, a dialogue open to all, to discuss the idea of European citizenship and the European experience, especially in the area of education. The meeting will open with remarks by the Rector of Collegio Nuovo Paola Bernardi, the Vice Rector for International Affairs at UniPV Matteo Alvaro, and the Delegate for Europe at UniPV Elisabetta Rocca. In the second part of the meeting, following the dialogue led by the students, Alberto Forte, coordinator of the EC2U Unit at UniPV, will present the projects, training opportunities, challenges, and the annual EC2U report, highlighting the results achieved by UniPV to date thanks to an extraordinary and unique European network of traditional campus cities. #UniPV Background: Pavia participates in the European network EC2U European Campus of City-Universities – an alliance of nine historic and multidisciplinary universities (Coimbra, Iasi, Jena, Pavia, Poitiers, Salamanca, Turku, Linz, Umeå) that share a strong international vocation and, at the same time, strong local roots, a factor that makes them #university-#city. #CCUM Background: This meeting concludes the "Europe Project" launched in April 2025 by the Conference of Italian University Colleges of Merit - CCUM, under the patronage of the Ministry of University and Research and the European Parliament. On a Friday evening listening to a frank story,

A Friday evening spent listening to a candid story, with the respect and humility of someone who doesn't want to impose their vision and experience, is one of the most beautiful gifts one can receive. Our alumna Lia Paola Zambetti, PhD, gave it to the Collegio and the Collegio Nuovo Alumnae Association. Below is the "thank you note"—how important it is to say thank you!—from Laura Carminati, vice president of the Association, chaired by Chiara Carsana. Thank you, Lia, for such a candid and inspiring account of your career journey—with all its twists and turns. You are a true testament to resilience and determination. My key takeaways: • Choose your mentor wisely. As we used to say at Imperial, the supervisor often matters more than the research project—whether you have a lion or a rabbit. You need someone who will fight your corner. • Network and explore. Go to conferences, connect with people, and actively seek out what you like and would like to do. If you look for a PhD a good starting point is https://lnkd.in/ez3nCBBg • Ask boldly. Seek, knock, ask. Opportunities often begin with the courage to reach out - and people are usually more willing to help than we expect. • Cultivate your passion and pursue it alongside your main path. A hobby can unexpectedly turn into a new career opportunity. • Stay open and adaptable. Keep an open mind, be flexible, and embrace new directions when they present themselves. "Sliding doors moments" do exist. Be thankful and carpe diem, don't worry about embarrassment on the way just move on

Il Nuovo, with its international partners, supports you in your programs abroad. As happened to our Medicine and Surgery student, Sara Frizzotti: "When, in my first year, MariaChiara told me about her experience in Heidelberg as the best August of her life, I still couldn't imagine that, only two years later, I would return to Pavia with the same enthusiasm and the same emotions she had told me about with such enthusiasm. I left confident and not too scared, perhaps thanks to the wonderful experience of the Summer School at Ochanomizu University in Tokyo that I had attended in my first year, again thanks to the College. Yet I was still nervous because of the well-known difficulty of the language. Between German lessons in the morning, seminars or sports activities in the afternoon and outings in the evening, every day was full, satisfying and unforgettable [...] I was shocked by the ease and speed with which the class blended together, between such different cultures and languages, perhaps also thanks to the interactive grammar lessons of our teacher Noah, who between his typical opening “Ich bin müde” and alternative explanations, always managed to make us laugh (he is portrayed in the drawing reproduced here of the our class, the G1B, made by our Chinese classmate, Betty). "

Not blind trust, but trust in the #scientific #method, in medical protocols and procedures, in the University that trains thinking and competent people, in the individual hospital, in the individual doctor. Trust in our #rationality." Food for thought offered by Guido Bosticco in Corriere della Sera (Corriere Salute) following a meeting about alternative medicine held at the Collegio Nuovo with journalist Luca Mastrantonio, along with Flavia Magri and Andrea Pietrabissa, professors at the University of Pavia. The meeting was sparked by the publication of "Piombo e latte" (@libribompiani), Mastrantonio's first novel, which draws inspiration from a well-known 1978 news story involving Vittorio Emanuele di Savoia (who remained unpunished): the tragic death of young Dirk Hamer following a shooting on the island of Cavallo. "This is also the first time that the editorship of a publication of the American Medical Association has been entrusted to someone who does not work in the USA," begins the Corriere della Sera. And this figure is our Alumna, Barbara Casadei, editor in chief of JAMA Cardiology, who explains her goal in the new leadership of the prestigious journal as follows: "My ambition is to publish scientific contributions from diverse geographies and articles that offer a perspective on the future of medicine, although, obviously, any change will take some time. We will try to differentiate the character of the journal by including not only articles on applied cardiology aimed primarily at high-income countries, but also studies conducted in low- and middle-income countries, where limited financial resources have contributed to the creation of ingenious innovations applicable on a large scale. We will give more space to new diagnostic modalities and potentially revolutionary gene therapies that are emerging thanks to the work of researchers such as Silvia Priori. My main goal is to promote an evidence-based journal that reflects a global perspective, embraces new technologies, with the ambition to educate and inspire the scientific leaders of the future. Congratulations to her and to Silvia Priori, Full Professor of Cardiology at the University of Pavia and Director of the Molecular Cardiology Unit - IRCCS Maugeri of Pavia: Prof. Priori (head of the course "Insights in ECG" promoted by the Collegio Nuovo and accredited by UniPV) has in fact entered the Editorial Board of the peer-reviewed journal which is a global point of reference for researchers, clinicians, doctors and students in the field of cardiovascular medicine. The fifth edition of the Global is underway at the Collegio Nuovo

The fifth edition of the Global Leadership Program for Ochanomizu University students has kicked off at Collegio Nuovo. After the opening session with Rector Paola Bernardi, who also spoke about the current state of female leadership in Italy and Europe, there were icebreaking activities led by students from the Japanese university, accompanied by two professors, Masako Kurawaki and Jie Zhang, and by the students of the Nuovo, coordinated by Alumna Arianna Albertini. Today we begin to talk about leadership development and practice expressing it with Caterina Farao. We played a game this morning before class: the girls—all but one of whom were in Europe for the first time—were asked to choose the first words that come to mind upon their first encounter with the Collegio and Pavia. Among the various expressions, adjectives like friendly, kind, amazing, historical, bright, 'chill', yellow (sic!: it's one of our two institutional colors!) exciting and... New!
