For the second time in the history of the International Cardano Award of the Rotary Club of Pavia, now in its XXXV edition, the "referred prominent person" in whose name the Award is recognised is a woman.
The first was, ten years ago, the soprano Claudia Muzio; this year, with the Presidency of Marta Sempio and in the presence of the first female President of the Rotary of Pavia, Antonella Ferrara, it's the turn of an excellent trained mathematician, founder of the Collegio Nuovo and of the women's section of the Ghislieri College: Sandra Bruni Mattei.
With her the judging commission recalls the scope of Entrepreneurship and Social Action, in which the Founder distinguished herself, enhancing the education of university students through the foundation of institutions that have managed to raise at least 2.000 graduates so far.
In this entrepreneurial and social context it is Lucia Annibali who will be get the Prize: already awarded as Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic "for the courage, determination and dignity with which she reacted to the serious physical consequences of the ignoble attack she suffered", Lucia Annibali has also carried out intense activity as a parliamentarian on issues of justice, violence against women and gender equality.
As part of the awards ceremony (5 December 2023, h. 17 in the Foscolo Hall of the University of Pavia), the lawyer Annibali, now Ombudsman of the Tuscany Region, will hold the lectio "Suffering as an opportunity".
The Rector of the Collegio Nuovo, Paola Bernardi, will remember the figure and commitment of the Founder Sandra Bruni Mattei.
